Sometimes we meet clients, we listen to their ideas and we have such a clear vision of what they want that we just can’t wait to get back to the office to start designing! Such was the case with this groovy, retro 60th birthday party. With inspiration drawn from the 60s, and 70s we knew yellows and oranges were going to feature heavily, it was time to get our designing hats on!
The Styling
As mentioned this party was full of nods to the 60s and 70s. But with modern twists. The clean lines of the white washed furniture paired beautifully with the colourful scatter cushions, the pale wood matched across the bar front, the lounge furniture and the dining furniture, providing lovely cohesion. Our custom “Fizz and 66” champagne bar was a great focal point, and when something translates so perfectly from design to real life it’s a true joy to behold! The orange band tent was a real hit of colour, whilst the main white stretch tent provided a beautiful blank canvas to our vintage festoon and colourful paper lanterns in the ceiling. All our staff were in matching yellow aprons, baker boy hats and fedoras, so they fitted right in with the costumed guests!
The Experience
From the first invite (“come in your best retro dress!”) guests knew what this party was going to be. A throwback but with all the joys of modern cooking and design! Upon arrival guests were greeted with a champagne reception served from the custom built bar, whilst canapes circulated and our wonderful cocktail bar was also available for anyone wanting something different from Verve Cliquot! Our DJ provided fabulous background music, the likes of Boney M, The Beatles and the Beach boys providing the perfect soundtrack to this September afternoon.
As the afternoon progressed, the BBQs were lit and bowl food started circulating, to get guests full of energy to dance along to the excellent live band. As the music turned up a notch, the photobooth opened allowing guests to travel back in time to the 60s, curtesy of the VW camper van photobooth. As adults let their hair down, children were well looked after by our face painter and storyteller in the tipi tent, allowing a relaxed place for kids to chill out and be entertained. As the band took a break we set out afternoon tea, the mini cakes, scones and perfect little sandwiches meaning nobody went hungry. Many a guest was seen with glass of fizz in one hand, cup of tea in the other, a true champagne afternoon tea! This gave everyone one last energy boost to see them dance their way through the bands second set, and sent everyone home, full of good memories and good food!
