This client came to us with a strong idea already in her head. She wanted a classy, upscale 50th with as many theatrical touches as we could manage. Our client’s career has spanned both sides of the pond, between Broadway and the West End so we knew we had a tough audience! We’ve created fabulous theatrical parties before like this 50th, but we know this one needed to be a little different. On initial meeting we decided to work with the natural dip in the garden to create two very distinct spaces, the gold and light filled dining space, and the dark and moody club space, from there we were running!
The Styling
The most important aspect of this party was that it needed to feel totally theatrical. This got our brains whirring and luckily for us our client was completely on board with everything we came up with! The dining tent was a clear roofed clear span, with swags of draped black voiles across the ceiling and down the walls to soften the space. Lit with gold candelabras and a magnificent crystal chandelier, the glass tableware glittered as the sun set, and paired beautifully with the stylish gold rimmed chargers and gorgeous gold cutlery. This was a truly golden, opulent space, fit for theatrical royalty! The club space was much moodier. Here we used fantastic deep red crushed velvet drapes, fringed with gold, set against black star cloth ceiling and black walls. The furniture in here we drew inspiration from shows like the Moulin Rouge, with black booth seating, and red accents. Old theatre seating and art deco styling touches completed the space, whilst a giant golden bar in the centre of the tent commanded attention.
The Experience
We wanted to make these guests feel like they were truly entering something special. A red carpet entrance, with custom step and repeat board gave the perfect backdrop for our paparazzi to snap away their photos, making every guest feel like a superstar! This red carpet led guests into the stunning tent where champagne and canapes circulated, to the background music of our fantastic guitarist. His repertoire for tonight was definitely theatrical leaning, with some musical numbers in amongst the crowd pleasers.
Dinner was a stylish sit down affair, with a classic menu; succulent coq au vin was followed by a refreshing lemon posset. Finishing with a lovely cheese course which guests ate whilst listening to some truly spectacular speeches. Guitars were tuned, vocal warmups took place, and the speeches were sung, rhymed and Shakespeare was even quoted, much to the amusement of the birthday girl and her guests! Once dinner was completed, our DJ fired up her decks, our cocktail bar really kicked into full swing and guests danced down the steps into the club, to party the night away!
The Challenge
A few low hanging tree branches gave us slight height restrictions for the marquee, dropping the size of the club space helped us with this, bringing us away from the trees slightly and allowed us to create a more intimate feeling club.
