This was the third party we’d organised for this lovely client, once again in their very tiny London garden. The most recent event we’d created for this family was their elder daughter’s 18th birthday, so when their son’s 18th birthday was on the horizon, they knew exactly where to come for another unforgettable celebration! They wanted this party to mirror his sister’s as closely as possible, which gave us a great starting point. We simply tweaked the décor to suit his colour and style preferences, and once we got the green light, we were off!
The Challenges
Because we already knew this garden well, we were also well aware of its challenges – its size and the pool sitting right in the middle! For a previous party, we’d built a platform over the pool, but to keep costs down and focus guests into one area, that wasn’t an option this time. Instead, we designed an L-shaped structure that guided guests through an entrance tent, past the bar, and into the main 18th birthday party space. It took several layout versions to get it just right, but the result made perfect use of every inch of the garden.
The Styling
The brief was simple and specific: a luxe, nightclub-inspired 18th birthday party. A star-cloth ceiling and light-up dance floor set the tone. To keep the space intimate and atmospheric, we went for a dark, moody palette with pops of colour from rich purple wall drapes. The LED bar became both a visual focal point and a buzzing social hub, keeping thirsty teens happy all night long!
The Experience
The goal was to recreate the feel of an upscale nightclub but in our client’s back garden. It’s a formula we know well, and we love watching guests walk in, wide-eyed, asking, “How does this even fit in your garden?!” As the party took place in early January, keeping the space warm and comfortable was essential. We made sure to include plenty of heating and a cloakroom area for coats and jackets.
Once the DJ started, the dance floor was full from start to finish. Guests only paused to visit the bar or the photo booth! Later in the evening, fresh pizza kept everyone fuelled, and the pick-and-mix sweet table was a huge hit, with many guests grabbing a bag or two to take home for the taxi ride. Another highlight of the 18th birthday was how seamlessly the garden was transformed into a nightclub-style space, creating a night to remember for all attendees.
